Budapest, the capital of Hungary, was formed in 1873, when three different towns – Buda, Pest and Óbuda – united resulting to the birth of today’s cosmopolitan Budapest which is affectionately known as the "Queen of the Danube". Geographically, Budapest is situated on both banks of the Danube, so it shapes the city, with industrial Pest on the right bank and hilly, historic Buda on the left bank and Óbuda on the outer edges of the city. The area has been successively ruled by many different cultures – Celts, Romans, Mongols, Germans, Austrians, just to name a few. The mark of each nations remains on the Hungarian capital in cobbled streets, hidden courtyards, Turkish baths and old-world architecture. Budapest is not only the centre of administration but also that of industry, trade, transport, traffic, education, culture, arts and sports for the vast nation of Hungary.
Budapest has a favorable climate throughout the year but the best time to visit is between March and the end of June and from the middle of August until October. July is generally very hot. Verdant islands such as Margitsziget (Margaret Island) and Óbudai-sziget are popular Budapest attractions on the Danube. These islands are the best places to go for a romantic walk amongst the trees and locating hidden places which lovers will find seducing and irresistibly romantic. You can enjoy an excellent picnic on the lawns amongst the beautifully kept flowers and some sun down cooling drinks at one of the fashionable bars.
