It is pretty ironic considering the fact that Michelin publishing the oldest and best-known European hotel and restaurant guide, which awards the Michelin stars, is a tire company. Anyway, that is exactly where the story of the famous Michelin Guide began. The Michelin Guide was first launched in 1900 to encourage road tripping in France and started anonymously reviewing restaurants in 1926 by means of a three-star system, concentrating on the quality, mastery of technique, personality and consistency of the food, not on interior décor, table setting or service quality.
