360Bar – Rooftop Bar in Budapest

I’m not sure why, but there’s something about drinking on a rooftop that makes it simply far more exciting than drinking on the ground floor. It could be the incredible views and the luxurious surroundings of the rooftop bar space, or the fact that you can unashamedly stare at the world and people below, or simply feeling like you’re part of this secret club up in the sky. Whatever it is, I love rooftop terraces, and I feel lucky because Budapest offers some amazing ones.

There’s a sneaky building on the Hungarian Champs-Elysées called Andrássy Avenue, which harbors a secret. It’s the proud owner of one of Budapest’s best rooftops. Hidden away, out of sight and mind, atop the Paris Department Store sits the 360Bar which offers one of the best sky-high perspective views of the metropolis, with enough landmarks in sight to keep you entertained even on the most boring first date. 🙂

Look out past Erzsébet square to the Citadel and Fisherman’s Bastion on the Buda side, and across the rooftops of the Opera House to St. Stephen’s Basilica, the Houses of Parliament and a lot more. Not to mention the view down to the bookstore on the ground floor inside the building. It’s also amazing.

The eclectic variety of the fittings (chairs, tables etc.) reminds you more of the furniture of a ruin-pub which is also popular in Budapest. Each of the tables is covered with cement tiles. The whole rooftop bar is full with lavender and herbs. I felt like I was in Provence or in a lounge bar on the coast of South France.

Then I realized that I was high in the absolute heart of Budapest and not on a rooftop in Paris. There is nowhere to hide on the roof if the weather changes, but that also means that every seat is the best seat in the house. Pick a sunny day and you can’t go wrong. A summer afternoon or evening, a soundtrack of chill-out and downtempo music gives it a bit of a beach-holiday feel.

The wine list is magnificent with its Hungarian wine assortment. The extensive cocktail list features Oldschool Cocktails and 360Bar Specials, as well as seasonal ice-cold lemonades and more. When you get hungry, you don’t need to leave, you can get some really nice grilled salmon or some salads or appetizers, and you can keep on hanging out on the rooftop.

360Bar became one of my favorites in no minute. The urban spirit lifestyle of 360Bar is accessible for everyone. There is no dress code to fear so you won’t feel embarrassed in sneakers. Leave your worries on the doorstep and enjoy beautiful sunsets and chill here.
