Best rooftop bars in Budapest

I’m not sure why, but there’s something about drinking on a rooftop that makes it simply far more exciting than drinking on the ground floor. It could be the incredible views and the luxurious surroundings of the rooftop bar space, or the fact that you can unashamedly stare at the world and people below, or simply feeling like you’re part of this secret club up in the sky.

Whatever it is, I love rooftop terraces, and I feel lucky because Budapest offers some amazing ones. Here is the list of the best rooftop bars in Budapest where you can escape the crowds, heat, traffic and chaos of the city below, while indulging in a cool cocktail and watching the sunset…

360 Bar

360 Bar is an iconic rooftop terrace in Budapest. There’s a sneaky building on the Hungarian Champs-Elysées aka Andrássy Avenue, which harbors a secret. Concealed, out of sight and mind, atop the Paris Department Store sits the 360 Bar which offers one of the best sky-high perspective views of the metropolis, with enough landmarks in sight to keep you entertained even on the most boring first date. In the chilly season you can enjoy an igloo with a view while sipping your hot chocolate.

Intermezzo Rooftop Terrace

Intermezzo Rooftop Terrace is located on the top of the elegant hotel in Hold Street in downtown. The panoramic terrace of Hotel President is a touristic hotspot of Budapest. You can enjoy close-up views of the Art Nouveau tiles on the nearby Hungarian State Treasury, and the 96-meter-high Parliament dome. In summer the terrace turns into one of the most exclusive eateries in the city. In winter the terrace functions as an ice skating rink.

TopRum SkyBar and Restaurant

TopRum SkyBar and Restaurant is situated on the top of a stylish design hotel called Hotel Rum. The 7th-floor bar offers a magical panoramic view of the Budapest skyline 365 days a year. The panorama glass wall can keep the rooftop nice and warm in cold weather, while in the summer you can lounge under the sky. Besides an amazing view of the city you can treat yourself to great drinks, tasty food and cool music. I love having brunch with a view here on Sundays.

St. Andrea Wine and Skybar

St. Andrea Wine & Skybar was opened by St. Andrea Winery. In this definitely exclusive hangout, you can enjoy the high life enhanced with sophisticated entertainment, gourmet experiences, and far-reaching vistas from atop a historic building by Vörösmarty Square. Thanks to a covered area, you can enjoy the hospitality of this deluxe drinking destination all year round.

High Note Skybar

High Note Skybar sits on the rooftop of Hotel Aria, the 5-star luxury boutique hotel and spa, just a stone’s throw away from St. Stephen’s Basilica. The skybar offers stunning year-round roof garden with 360˚ views. It was named as one of the Top 10 Best Rooftop Bars in the World by Conde Nast Traveller in 2018.

Leo Rooftop

My list wouldn’t be complete without Leo Rooftop which was named after the famous lions guarding the Chain Bridge. This rooftop bar is located on the top of Hotel Clark at the Buda foot of Chain Bridge. From the top you can overlook the Danube and the Pest cityscape as well. Leo is primarily a bar but you can order high-quality bar food alongside a variety of exciting cocktails and premium spirits.

Liz and Chain Sky Lounge

Liz and Chain Sky Lounge is the latest addition to the rooftop scene of city. The newly opened skybar sits on the top of Hotel Marriott, overlooking the two bridges that provide its name: Elizabeth and Chain Bridges, with a perfect view of Buda Castle and beyond. The rooftop bar operates from Thursdays to Saturdays from 5pm to midnight until autumn arrives.
