Car enthusiasts, mark your calendars! The Oldtimer Show 2026 Autumn Edition returns to Budapest on October 17-18, taking over the Hungarian Railway History Park for a weekend filled with classic vehicles, vintage atmosphere, and plenty of nostalgic surprises.
Around 500 carefully selected oldtimer vehicles will be on display, including pre-war cars, vintage motorcycles, American classics, sports and luxury cars, tractors, trucks, buses, and even beautifully preserved wooden boats. Many of the vehicles are arriving from abroad, making this a particularly interesting event for anyone who loves automotive history and rare collector pieces.
This year’s edition also brings some exciting new attractions. For the first time in Hungary, visitors can see a period ÁFOR petrol station diorama, complete with attendants dressed in vintage clothing. There will also be spectacular star-engine start demonstrations twice a day, while the exhibition of wooden boats includes a speed-record-holding catamaran.
And the cars are only part of the story. The Oldtimer Show takes over the Railway History Park, bringing its historic railway attractions to life as well. Visitors can enjoy the locomotive turntable, handcars, railcars, horse-drawn railway, garden railway, and a special steam engine experience featuring the 130-year-old 1026 steam locomotive. The iconic red Nohab diesel locomotive will also be open for visitors to explore from the inside.
There is plenty more to discover around the park, including a vintage military camp, retro tuning cars, a classic vehicle exhibition, a sports car display, a model railway exhibition, and a craft and farmers’ market. Families are welcome too, with free activities and games for children, including an inflatable castle, playground, and skill-based games.
One of the highlights for visitors is the prize draw. Every admission ticket purchased at the event is also a free raffle ticket, giving visitors the chance to win one of several prizes. The grand prize is a 1986 Mercedes W124-200 sedan with OT registration and museum certification, which will be raffled off on Sunday at 4 PM.
And yes, there is a little space to slow down between all the engines and chrome. A picnic area will be set up around the park’s ornamental fountain, with a casual food stand serving hot meals. Visitors are also allowed to bring their own sandwiches and a small bottle of tea, which is a particularly nice touch for families.
Whether you come for the cars, the historic trains, the retro atmosphere, or simply because you enjoy discovering unusual corners of Budapest, the Oldtimer Show makes for a fun and slightly time-travelling autumn weekend.
